Halifax County High School wrestling took two of three matches in the final home action of the season Tuesday night.

The Comets roared past Magna Vista, 48-17, and also slipped past Bassett, 42-39, while losing to Patrick County, 42-36.

PC slips past HCHS:

HCHS slipped into a 30-6 deficit, before trying to make a comeback. James Anderson crafted a 9-8 win at 160 for the Comets. Brian DeBow won, 6-5, at 170. But Jarrett Messick got pinned at 182.

Ezra Walker won by forfeit at 195 for HCHS, as the Comets trailed, 36-18. Jamal Hubbard got pinned at 220, and HCHS trailed, 42-18.

Jarius Marable got a pin for HCHS at 285 and then the Comets got wins by forfeit from Camey Conner at 106 and Bailey Snead at 113 to slice PC’s final winning margin to six points.

HC edges Bassett:

The Comets started with a 39-0 deficit, and started to claw back. James Anderson and Debow got pins, and Messick won by forfeit. Ezra Walker (195), Hubbard (220), Marable and Conner won by forfeits, and HCHS emerged with a three-point win.

HC routs Magna Vista

The Comets took advantage of a depth-shy Magna Vista squad, rolling to an easy win.

Most of the Comet wins came because of Magna Vista forfeits, although Marable got a pinfall win at 285.
