Cunningham takes tournament, district POY honors

Comet JD Cunningham claimed district and tournament Player of the Year honors at the Piedmont District golf tournament on Monday.

Cunningham was tournament medalist with a 75, helping the Comets to a second place in the district finals.

Joining Cunningham in earning first team all-district honors was teammate Jack Morgan. Will Long and Lucas Newton were selected to the second team. The four players would also be the top four golfers for the Comets on the day with a team score of 337.

Patrick County won the match with a 335. Magna Vista placed third with a 345. Fourth and fifth place went to Bassett (366) and Tunstall (434).

Up next for the Comets is the Region 4D tournament Monday at Hidden Valley in Salem.

Comet golfers: JD Cunningham 75, Jack Morgan 87, Lucas Newton 87, Will Long 88, Zac Rhodes 88, Joe Roberts 94.
