Debs face elimination at Dixie World Series / August 02, 2021

The Halifax County Dixie Debs All-Stars, representing Virginia, had a tough outing in its opener Saturday against South Carolina in Ruston, La., falling 5-4 and making a Sunday matchup against Alabama a must-win to stay in World Series competition.

The locals performed decently with their bats but couldn’t plate some runs at critical times. The girls left at least one runner on the bags five of the seven innings of play.

Halifax’s four runs were posted during the sixth and seventh innings. The first run came after R. Long had a leadoff triple in the sixth. With two out S. Haskins reached base on a single; A. Glasscock was hit by a pitch to advance. Long scored on a passed ball.

Halifax added three runs in the seventh. A. Martin was hit by a pitch to leadoff; with one out B. Barksdale hit a single. P. Wallace smacked a RBI-double sending Martin home.

J. Lewis followed with a two-RBI double, plating Barksdale and Wallace in the 5-4 final.

Martin and Barksdale shared pitching duties, Martin taking the loss.
