Defensive lapse costs Dragon girls in 4-0 loss to Powhatan

SoVaNow.com / May 05, 2010
The Park View Lady Dragons suffered a major defensive lapse in the third inning and never recovered as the Powhatan Lady Indians picked up a 4-0 win in softball last Tuesday in South Hill.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless tie after two innings when the bottom fell out for the Park View girls in the top of the third.

Powhatan scored three runs in the top of the frame despite getting only two hits against starting Dragon pitcher Elizabeth Ezell. An error and two passed balls proved to be the difference as Ezell was otherwise very tough on batters, allowing only six hits in the game.

Powhatan scored another run in the sixth inning to account for the 4-0 final.

Park View was able to scratch out only two hits against Powhatan starting pitcher Rachael Walters, who struck out seven and went the distance for the victory. The win preserved Powhatan’s unbeaten record in the Southside District as the Lady Indians departed South Hill with their seventh win in league action.
