Dixie Boys rally in regional play

The local Halifax County Dixie Boys 14s all-stars rallied in fine fashion Saturday in regional play at the Day Complex.

HC, now 1-1, routed Timberlake, 16-0, in five innings.

The local all-stars ripped nine hits, with Braxton Giacherio going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Ty Winters went two-for three, with three RBI. Adam Throckmorton went 2-for-2 with an RBI. James Cole, the leadoff batter, walked twice, scored twice, with the sparkplug style player scoring on a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk.

Michael Gray worked a complete game, allowing one hit. He fanned five. HC got two hits in the first, leading to two runs. The locals had three more runs in the second, off one hit, and then broke the game open with an eight-run, four-hit third.

In Friday’s action, Halifax County fell to Powhatan, 9-5.

Powhatan rallied with two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to secure the win.

Colby Pool and Adam Throckmorton handled the pitching duties for HC. HC scored one run in the first, and four in the fourth. Winters cranked a two-run double and Ty Carrington added a two-run single in the frame. HC managed only three hits in the loss.

Clarksville and Halifax County were scheduled to play Sunday.
