Sports Dragons whip Central 81-57 to open season
SoVaNow.com / December 08, 2010
The Park View Dragon varsity boys kicked off their hoops season in fine style on Wednesday, pummeling the Chargers of Lunenburg 81-57 at home. The Dragons saw 10 players break into the scoring column, led by the senior duo of Harold Bennett and Keith Haskins. Bennett, the Dragons’ point guard, led Park View with 18 points, while forward Haskins was close behind with 17 points as the pair gave the Chargers defense all it could handle. The Dragons jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back on their way to a double digit advantage, 35-22, at halftime. Park View continued to pull away in the second half to score the 24-point win over Lunenburg. The Chargers hurt their cause by committing 24 team fouls, sending the Dragons to the stripe for 40 free throw attempts. They converted on 24 of them, with Bennett alone taking 14 tries. He made seven. The Chargers’ offensive standout was Larico Reese, who led Lunenburg with 13 points. The Chargers hit five shots from behind the three-point arc, but it was far from enough to keep pace with the balanced Park View scoring attack. In addition to Bennett and Haskins’ combined 35 points, Park View would get nine points each from Caleb Johnson and Jamar Alexander, seven points each from Dagarrius Smith and James Brown, and five points from Joey Jones. The Dragons also played at Amelia on Monday night and won, 60-58. Details of the game were not available at press time. Park View will be in action again Friday, when the Dragons travel to Central of Lunenburg, and they host Amelia in a home rematch on Monday, Dec. 13. All varsity games start at 7:30 p.m. News & Record
