Eagles continue WVD dominance

SoVaNow.com / August 27, 2009
Franklin County continued its dominance of the Western Valley district regular season golf race Monday.

The Eagles shot a 302 in round two and now own a commanding lead in the regular season race. The WVD regular season champion gets one of the two regional berths.

FCHS has a two-round total of 593, breezing past the rest of the district. PH is 52 strokes behind the Eagles, with a total of 645 after 36 holes. Halifax County stands third at 652, 61 shots behind FCHS. GW is fourth at 711 and William Fleming is a non-factor, with a 990.

Franklin County had a team score of 302 in Monday’s play. The WVD golfers played the par 71 Countryside Golf Club in Roanoke.

PH was second Monday, with a 314, and HCHS had a round of 332. GW recorded a 358 and Fleming shot 498.

Scores

T.J. Daniel 77; Coy Lawson 82 ; Cody Spencer 84; Taylor Tepper 89; Parker Harrell 93; and Katilin Fallen 104.

Coach David Graham noted some slippage by the Comets.

“A great round from Daniel. This was a very tough course and he played a fine round. Coy Lawson continue to be very steady with an 82. We lose some ground to P H, which played an excellent round of 314, dropping us out of second place for now.

“We are going to approach this from the positive side, taking motivation to work harder to over take P H in the next match. We didn’t play as well as I hoped, but I know the players are working hard on things and hopefully we will have better results,” said the Comet coach.

The next match is Monday at Danville Country Club. Tee time is 2 p.m. GW Danville is the host.
