Five Comets heading for state track meet / February 24, 2009
A group of five Comet track and field performers is headed to the Group AAA state meet this weekend in Hampton.
The HCHS girls finished 27th in regional action Friday, while Osbourn Park won the regional title. HCHS had several standout performers, who qualified for the state.
Andrea Wright took second in the high jump in 5-04. Brittany Foster was third in the triple jump in 34-10. Tanisha Evans placed third in the 300-meter dash in 42.63. Brittany Foster was fourth in the long jump in 10-02.75.
Wright, Evans and Foster will compete in the state meet.
The Comet boys were 16th in the region, with 12 points. Albemarle won the regional boys' crown.
Two Comets have qualified for the state.
They include Clyde Scott, third in the 55-meters in 7.82 and fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20-07.
Thomas Logan of HCHS has also qualified for the state. He finished eighth in the region in the 55-meter dash in 6.70.
