Bruised Comets seek turnaround

Halifax County High School varsity football can still enjoy a positive season, but the Comets will need a turnaround effort at Martinsville Friday.





Freshmen pick up win over FC / January 17, 2013
The Halifax County High School freshmen downed Franklin County 69-59 in district action in South Boston Tuesday night.

Halifax sprinted to a terrific start, leading 19-4 at the end of the first period. Franklin County rallied with a 20-point second period and the Eagles trailed, 28-24, at the half.

Halifax really clicked offensively in the third, scoring 29 points. The Comets led, 57-43, at the end of three periods and cruised to the win.

Jacob Garrett was all but unstoppable, especially in the third, for HCHS.

He had 34 points on the night.

Garrett had 12 points in the first period, 13 in the third, and eight in the fourth. He connected on six 3-pointers and went 10-for-16 at the foul line.

Kavon Fitzgerald had a steady game for the Comets and scored 10.
