Halifax routed by Mecklenburg in pre-majors state tournament

Mecklenburg hammered Halifax County, 19-0, in the second game of state tournament action at Parker Park in Dixie Pre-Majors action.

Mecklenburg found an offensive groove early and scored four runs in the first inning and six in the second. The Mecklenburg squad added four in the third and finished with five in the fourth frame.

Mecklenburg capitalized on multiple errors, walks and wild pitches from Halifax in the first two innings.

Ethan Stanley cracked an RBI double in the first, while Christian Bartholemew slapped a RBI groundout.

Bartholemew ripped a two-run double in the second frame. Dalton Lockridge added an RBI double in the same inning.

Halifax struggled at the plate. The local all-stars produced scattered offense and never threatened in this game.

Halifax later played Saturday night to avoid elimination.

The first game produced a much better results for the locals Friday night.

Halifax slipped past Madison Heights, 10-8.

The locals scored five runs on three hits in the first inning. Christian Midkiff,

Brock Poole, and Jimmy Wilkins hit singles in the first and all three scored.

HC had one more run on two hits in the fourth. Nathan Comer had a key double and Jimmy Wilkins cracked a single. Kamron Turbeville also reached.

Halifax also later got solid offensive production in the sixth and seventh, working with success at the top of the order.
