Hardy, Clayton grapple at VHSL State tourney

Bluestone grapplers Niel Clayton Jr and Alex Hardy will compete at the VHSL Wresting Championships in Salem on Feb. 15-16.

The Bluestone varsity wrestling team had three members place in the VHSL Region 2A Championship on Saturday in Poquoson. Alex Hardy and Neil Clayton Jr. claimed the championships in their respective wrestling classes.

Clayton wrestles at 220 pounds, Hardy at 285 pounds. Landon Lyles battled back to earn a sixth place after taking an early loss and dropping to the consolation bracket.

Hardy and Clayton’s next stop is a trip to Salem on Feb. 15-16 for the 2A State Wrestling Tournament.

Bluestone had four wrestlers advance to the regions from the James River District tournament. Neil Clayton Jr. was first place in the district wrestling at 220 pounds; Alex “Tank” Hardy, second place, 285 lbs.; D’Andre Alexander, third place, 182 lbs.; Andrew Chrisco, third place, 152 lbs.; and Landon Lyles, fourth place, 145 lbs.
