HC-South allstars fall in Ripken finals

The local Halifax County-South Cal Ripken major league all-stars had a strong run in SE regional play in Staunton.

HC-South finished 5-1 and the runner-ups in the tournament.

HC-South won its opener by a 6-2 score over the Staunton. The locals then defeated Winter Park, 6-2, in game two. HC-South defeated Glen Allen, 5-4, in game three. The local all-stars then took out Sweet Water, Ala., with an 11-8 win in game four.

The Virginia champs defeated South Daytona, 7-3, and that victory sent HC-South to the title game. There, the local all-stars fell 9-1 to Sweet Water.

The Alabama squad went on to the Ripken World Series.
