HCHS softball wins region contest over PH-Roanoke / May 23, 2019

Halifax County High School softball rebounded from Thursday, and posted a 15-0 win over Patrick Henry-Roanoke to advance to the regional semifinals.

Halifax, now 17-4, is one game away from a regional finals berth and a repeat trip to the state tournament.

The Comets got strong pitching from Lauryn Chappell, Raegan Ridgeway and Madison Barnes, and plenty of offensive punch.

The Comets were more focused after a sloppy, disappointing loss to Franklin County in the district tournament semifinals.

If the Comets win Tuesday, they would host the regional finals.

Halifax is seeking to return to the state Class 5 tournament, which includes a quarterfinals round and then the state Final Four.

Coach Woody Bane said the Comets got quality pitching. The way Halifax hits and runs the bases, Bane said, is a major factor it its success.

Halifax sprinted to a 5-0 lead in its half of the first inning and cruised from there.
