HCHS track teams sweep Person / March 23, 2011
The Halifax County High School track and field teams started the outdoor season Monday with a sweep of border rival Person County HS.

The Comet girls won, 66-30, while the boys also prevailed, 75-37.

Kelvin Jennings led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 meters, with a time of 22.62. Terence Boyd and Devan Richardson placed second and third, respectively. Darius Weaver won the 100-meters in 10.50, with Richardson second. Dontra Graves won the 800-meters in 2:30, with J. Davis of HC third.

Mandell Claiborne won the 400 meters in 54.16 seconds, with Bryant Coleman third. Ethan Collie won the 3200 meters in 11:30.96. Marcus Bowman of HC won the 300 meter hurdles in 42.03 seconds, with Sebastion Brion third. Collie won the 1600 meters in 5:20, with Davis second. Travis Lipscomb wom the triple jump with a leap of 44’-01.2, with Terrance Boyd second.

Lipscomb also won the long jump (22-04.2) with Boyd and Kelvin Jennings picking up the next two places. Lipscomb was second in the high jump with a throw of 5-08.3. Lipscomb was also second in the discus with a 116-11.

Terence Brandon was third in the shot at 41-01.

The Comets won the 4x400 meter relay.

For the girls, K. Outlaw took second in the shot, with a throw of 25-03. Outlaw also won the discus with an effort of 69-08. Mikayla Boyd won the 100-meter hurdles in 17 seconds. HCHS also won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:52.50. Team members included Oryonna Belton, LaShawn Johnson, Anissia Coleman and Kiana Woodall.

M. Boyd won the long jump in 17’03.25. Ashley Hill was second.

S. Schafer won the 800-meter run in 3:18.89. Amber Walton was second in the high jump with an effort of 4-08, with Ashley Hill third. M. Boyd also won the triple in 34-11.5.

Tylisa Crews won the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds, with K. Scott second and K. Mosley third. Woodall led a 1-2-3 Comet sweep in the 400-meter dash in 1:10.2, with Belton second and Johnson third.

K. Mosley won the 200 meter dash in 25.76, with Crews second and Scott third. The Comets also won the 4x100 relay in 54.35.
