HCMS baseball team staves off late PV rally / April 19, 2010
Park View Middle School staged a late rally, but it was not enough as the Halifax County Middle School baseball team held on for a 14-8 win Wednesday.

The Trojans scored three in the seventh to close the gap, but HCMS had too much offensive pop in this one.

The Lions finished with a 15-6 edge in hits. HCMS had three doubles and a triple, capitalizing on four stolen bases and five walks.

The Lions picked up two runs in the first, one in the second, six in the third, two in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Tyler Stephens went 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI, including a two-run triple in the third.

Tripp Bennett had two hits and three RBI, including a double, while Dustin Crews had two hits and an RBI. Eddie Chaney had a double and two hits overall, while Michael Watts had two hits.

Will Harris, Nick Lewis, Tristan Howerton and Josh Irby contributed a base hit.

The Lions used five pitchers. Ryan Womack got the win, striking out three and allowing no hits, with one unearned run allowed. He also walked three batters.
