HCMS golf takes home win to improve to 2-0 / September 06, 2021

The Halifax County Middle School golf team improved to 2-0 with its home opener win last week at Greens Folly Golf Course. The team picked up the win, shooting a 187.

Ben Franklin Middle School was second at 225. Patrick County took third with 251.

Halifax’s Owen Mason shot a 43 to pace the field and earn medalist honors.

Landon Elliot and Nathan Hudson each shot 47. Sidney Hughes totaled a 50 to help bring the victory home.

This HCMS golf team is one of the largest Coach Charlie Payne has ever had participate at the middle school. As the 2021 season approached 21 golfers, mostly sixth graders were participating.

At its home course the team would have 17 Lion golfers have the opportunity to play.

“The team played really well on a very hot and humid day,” said Payne. “Greens Folly is one of the longest courses we will play on this year and I thought our scores were extremely good.

“We kept a lot of players this year and the good thing about a home match is we can give them a chance to compete. Coach Graham and I are very proud of all who played today and the team will continue to improve with each practice and match.”

The next match is Tuesday at Gordon Trent Golf Course with a 4 p.m. tee time.

Lion Cards: Owen Mason 43, Landon Elliott 47, Nathan Hudson 47, Sidney Hughes 50, Bailee Henderson 51, Ethan Conner 54, Trafton Martin 56, Drew Morgan 57, Luke Ashwell 58, Logan Chappell 58, Camdyn Chapell 60, Griffin Scearce 65, Harper Yancey 65, Hayden Shepperd 66, Tristin Blackstock 68, Jenna Perkins 70, Peyton Johnson 70.
