Jayvee Baron girls rout Lunenburg / January 22, 2020

Daniya White scored a season-high 29 points and Bluestone played solid defense as the Lady Barons jayvee basketball team beat Central Lunenburg 42-23 in Skipwith last week.

In the win over Lunenburg, White, a freshman, had a dominating night on offense and defense.

The win improved the JV girls’ record to 8-2, 7-2 in the James River District. The Baron jayvee girls rank third in the district — Buckingham at 8-0 and Cumberland at 8-1 hold first and second place, in that order.

Both teams got off to a slow start, but more so Bluestone as the Barons only scored two points in the first period. Lunenburg was held to six points in the first period.

Bluestone got their offense going in the second period, posting 11 points while still limiting Lunenburg to six. White had 10 of the first half points for Bluestone.

The girls closed out the game with a 13-point third period followed by a powerful 17-2 final frame. White had eight points in the third and 11 in the fourth.

Mercedes Alexander and Nej Yasharie Hardy were the only players to score for Lunenburg. Alexander hit for 13 points; Hardy added 10 points.

Goochland 19

Bluestone picked up a nice road win on Jan. 10 when they traveled to Goochland and bested the Lady Bulldogs 25-19. Makayla Mason paced the Junior Lady Barons with 13 points.

Bluestone was outscored 8-4 in the first quarter and went to the half down by a 13-10 score. Bluestone held their hosts to six points the entire second half, and those were scored in the third. Bluestone won the final frame 11-0.

Mason headed the 39-25 win over Nottoway with 19 points.
