Jayvee girls drop WVD openers
SoVaNow.com / January 07, 2013The Halifax County High School jayvee girls basketball team dropped a pair of district losses last week.
Halifax lost to William Fleming at home Friday, 59-16, preceded by a tough loss at GW-Danville Wednesday, 39-13.
Coming home Friday, the Comets continued to sputter offensively. Fleming led at the half, 30-11, and extended the lead to 41-15 by the end of the third period.
Eleven Fleming players scored, while Halifax got six points from Ghanija Gooden, four from Aleara Edmondson and three from Timonee McCargo.
“Believe it or not, early in the game, first half, we had some good opportunities that we just didn’t convert on. The girls passed the ball, drove the ball and made some great passes. We just didn’t score on the opportunities we had,” Comet coach David Graham said.
“We’ve got to rebound a little bit better. Other than that, we created the opportunity. We’ve got to finish it off,” said Graham.
The Comets dropped to 5-6 overall.
HC also struggled to click offensively in the loss to GW.
Edmondson had five points and Gooden, Trinity Owen and Bria McCargo also had two points apiece.
GW put this away early.
“We’re not scoring enough points. Our offense, we’ve got to create and get some more points. We did that tonight (against Fleming). We’ve got to score more points. You’re not going to win games scoring 15,16 points a game. Got to score more points,” said Graham.
