Jayvee girls sail past Glass
SoVaNow.com / November 29, 2012The Halifax County High School jayvee girls’ basketball team sailed to a 35-26 win Tuesday night in the season opener over E.C. Glass.
HCHS owned a 12-5 lead at the end of the first period and extended it to 24-11 at the half. Glass only managed 15 points the rest of the night.
Nyjah Torian led the Comets with 13, including one three-pointer. Ghanija Gooden added 11, all from the second quarter moving forward, and Timonee McCargo had eight.
“We played pretty well. The girls were a little nervous, played a great first half, offensive-wise and defensive-wise. Didn’t score too much the second half, but we played really good defense. It was a tough team. They (Glass) had some good players also. But our girls hung in there,” Comet coach David Graham said.
HCHS used a 1-3-1 and 2-3 zone most of the night to throttle Glass.
HCHS has Person County at home tomorrow night.
