South Boston Council votes in favor of cigarette tax

South Boston Town Council moved decisively to impose a 10 cent-per-pack tax on cigarette purchases in town by voting 4-1 in favor of the levy Monday night.

Jayvees pick up first district win / September 25, 2017
The Halifax County High School jayvee football team closed out strong Thursday night, defeating Tunstall at home, 26-14.

Zyliek Perkins had an important night. He had two interceptions returned for touchdowns, of 85 and 15 yards. He also had a 90-yard kickoff return for a score. Mekjay Boyd also had a 20-yard touchdown return in the Comet win. William Davis also had an interception.

Coach Tommy Turbeville said the Comets played well in all three phases of the game. The Comets got significant contributions from special teams and defense.

Halifax led 14-0 at the half, and then Perkins delivered his kickoff return to spark the Comets to start the second half.

Halifax also got very solid defensive work on defense from its spurs on defense. Halifax kept Tunstall one-dimensional.

The Comets celebrated their first win in the Piedmont District.
