Jayvees shut down in second half, fall to Dan River 22-6

SoVaNow.com / September 18, 2017
The Halifax County High School jayvee football team slipped to 0-2 following a 22-6 home loss to Dan River Thursday night.

Halifax led 6-0 at the half. The Comets ran into second half turbulence, surrendering a safety and falling behind on efforts to contain the Dan River ground game.

Halifax earned its lone score on a 40-yard rushing touchdown by Mekjay Boyd in the second quarter.

Dan River turned it around in the second half, taking advantage of the safety and three rushing scores.

“We did not finish the deal. We were ahead, 6-0. They (Dan River) mixed it up on us a little bit in the second half. We could only get our running game going in spots in the second half, nothing sustained,” coach Tommy Turbeville said.

Halifax recovered two fumbles, but could not capitalize on the turnovers.
