Jayvees slip past Franklin County 49-44 / December 21, 2017
Halifax County High School overcame a five-point deficit by outscoring Franklin County in the second, third and fourth periods Tuesday for a 49-44 Piedmont District boys junior varsity basketball win over the Eagles at Samuel M. Hawkins-Central Gymnasium.

Franklin Counyt (2-1, Piedmont, 4-2) saw a four-game winning streak end with the setback.

The Eagles led 15-10 after the opening quarter before the Comets rallied to equal the count at 21 at intermission after taking the second stanza 11-6.

Halifax broke that stalemate by winning the third quarter, 15-14, to produce a 36-35 edge.

The Comets secured the win by claiming the fourth quarter 13-9.

Halifax made 18 field goals, one of which was a 3-pointer, and was 12 of 16 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.

Kevon Ferrell netted a game-best 15 points for the Comets. He was Halifax’s lone double-figure scorer.

Also scoring were Davon Jennings with seven points, Osiris Ross with six, Amir Spencer and Nasir Word each with five, Keyhawn Wells and Charles Harris each with four and Zyliek Perkins with three.
