Jefferson Forest takes scrimmage win over Comet boys tennis

SoVaNow.com / March 11, 2019
Jefferson Forest took a 6-3 win in scrimmage action in boys tennis action against Halifax County High School Thursday.

Comet coach David Riddle assessed the scrimmage.

“As coaches we never want to see a loss, even if it is a scrimmage. But looking back and comparing this to last years scrimmage again them, it was certainly more positives than negatives. For starters, JF has a very solid team. Many of the same guys from the team that beat us pretty handily last year are back on this group, and most are seniors. To play as close as we did against a really good squad. says al ot for where we are at already this early in this year.

“We came out pretty strong in doubles, with tight matches throughout. Luke got us started with a really solid win at the 5 spot, and Minjune followed it up with a very close 8-6 match at 4. Trevor was behind in most of his match, even being behind 6-5 before winning the next 3 to take the victory. And Ben and Owen both had back and forth matches that just didn’t go our way at the end.

“We were tied 3-3 going into doubles, so we certainly had a shot. And we played well in the matches even though we lost. The experience factor just played in our there side and we couldn’t capitalize,” said Riddle.
