Lady Barons’ season ends with 46-24 loss to Brunswick girls / February 21, 2018

The Bluestone Lady Barons lost their first-round VHSL Region 2A West game to the Brunswick Lady Bulldogs in Lawrenceville on Friday night, 46-24.

The loss ends a fairly decent season for the girls which saw them take sixth place in James River District regular season action efore bowing out in the regional tourney. The team was 5-11 in JRD action and 5-18 overall.

Brunswick took the early 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bluestone’s Iesha Gregory had a three-pointer; Kaitlyn Shanklin had a deuce in the frame.

Bluestone’s point production in the second quarter was limited to a basket by Erin Strider. Brunswick posted 12 points for the 23-8 halftime score.

Bluestone had its best offensive output in the third period, scoring 11 points. Tiaa Canada had six points to lead Bluestone. Brunswick knocked down 14 points.

Both teams played each other fairly even in the final frame with Bluestone scoring five points and Brunswick nine.

Gregory led the Barons with seven points.
