Lady Barons swept in three matches this week

The Bluestone Senior High varsity volleyball team had a busy week of traveling this week, playing Randolph-Henry, Halifax and Southhampton. The Baron ladies lost in four games to Randolph Henry on Monday, 25-22, 25-23, 25-15, 25-18.

Senior Amy Hamlett paced the Lady Barons against R-H with five aces, 23 digs and four kills. Junior Taylor Moore contributed three aces and eight digs. Senior Elizabeth Nelson managed two aces, eight digs and had eight assists.

Junior Morgan Pruett tallied six digs, two kills and one block. Sophomore Carmen Sturdifen scored 13 digs, 21 kills and 1 block. Senior Jasmine Sturdifen offered 13 digs, nine assists and four kills while sophomore Anahi Trujillo recorded nine digs and fours assists.

On Wednesday, the Lady Barons played Halifax and lost in three consecutive games, 25-12 25-23 25-20. Taylor Moore posted two aces, eight digs, seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore Bridgette Bass had two aces, four digs, five kills and three blocks. Elizabeth Nelson scored two aces, five digs, seven kills and three blocks. Morgan Pruett added two aces, fives digs, seven kills and three blocks.

Thursday marked the start of Bluestone’s Southside District schedule and brought yet another loss to Southhampton in three consecutive games, 6-25, 20-25, 23-25. Amy Hamlett managed five aces and six digs. Taylor Moore gathered up two assists and one kill. Elizabeth Nelson scored five digs and four assists.

Also, Carmen Sturdifen contributed nine digs, 10 kills, and two blocks. Jasmine Sturdifen added five digs and two blocks. Bridgette Bass had seven digs and Anahi Trujillo added six digs.

Bluestone’s jayvees also lost all three of their matches last week. Randolph-Henry’s jayvee team won back to back games, 25-9, 25-14. Sophomore, Jessi Covington paced Bluestone with six digs and five kills. Freshman, Samantha Hogan, added seven digs and one kill. Freshman Stephanie Dejanon received three digs and five kills. Sophomore Erin Puryear gained three digs and five kills.

Tuesday’s game was a two game match with Halifax winning 25-9 and 25-6. Kelsey Pruett, Samantha Hogan, both freshmen, and Erin Puryear all contributed five digs and three kills to the team’s effort and Stephanie Dejanon landed one dig and three kills.

Thursday’s JV game against Southampton began on a high note, but quickly developed into a loss for the Junior Lady Barons. The first match went their way, 25-10, but Southampton came back to win the next two matches 25-16 and 15-10.

Freshman Taylor Burke posted three aces, eight digs and one assist. Erin Puryear landed three aces and six digs. Jessi Covington gained two aces, three assists and one kill. Sophomore Erin Hoke tallied one ace, five digs and three kills, while Kelsey Pruett scored one ace, six digs and one kill.
