Lady Barons take second place in Sports Plus Classic

SoVaNow.com / March 27, 2013
The Bluestone varsity girls finished as runners-up in the Sports Plus Softball Classic this weekend in Chesterfield as the Lady Barons vanquished three foes before falling in the championship game on Saturday.

The girls fell 9-4 in the tournament finale to Broad Run High School, a Group AAA Division 5 school from Loudon County. Prior to that, the Lady Barons downed tournament contenders Colonial Heights, Essex and Isle of Wight.

Bluestone opened play in the Sports Plus Classic Friday afternoon against Colonial Heights, gaining a 13-3 decision as the Lady Barons jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning.

The girls advanced to play Essex in the Friday nightcap, again winning comfortably by 12-1 score.

On Saturday, the Lady Barons picked up where they left off the night before by trouncing Isle of Wight, 13-6. That set up the tournament finale with the Spartans of Broad Run, and the end of Bluestone’s tournament run.

Still, the outstanding performance over the weekend by the Lady Barons raised their season record to 4-1 with Bluestone slated to return to action next week, April 4, at Park View.
