Lady Comets fall to Rockets / August 27, 2009
After a season-opening win over Gretna last Friday, the HCHS varsity volleyball team ran into a tougher deal playing Person County Tuesday.

The Comets fell, three games to one, although HCHS scratched out a game three win, 25-23.

Person won game one, 25-9, and followed with a 25-19 victory in game two. HCHS rallied with a 25-23 win in game three. But Person responded with a 25-9 win in game four to seal the match.

HCHS struggled with its serving, getting 67 percent successfully completed. The setting was 98 percent and passing was at 60 percent.

HCHS finished with 16 service points in the match, led by Jo Spencer with three. Jamilia Smith also had three service points, while Melyse Brown, Jill Trickey, Alex O’Neil and Jessie Bagbey had two apiece.

HCHS also had four aces, led by Bagbey with two. Halifax recorded three kills apiece, with M. Brown and Jamilia Smith getting three apiece.

Halifax had 87 good passes and 57 passing errors.

The Comets travel to Gretna tonight for more non-district tune-up action.
