Lady Comets get Senior Night win / May 14, 2009
HCHS downed GW-Danville, 5-2, in girls’ varsity soccer action Tuesday, putting the Comets in a tie with its archrivals for fourth place in the district.

HCHS (9-6, 3-6) has one game remaining in the WVD regular season. The Comets traveled to Franklin County yesterday. GW travels to PH Friday.

Sarah Rosche had an outstanding game for the Comets Tuesday, as she scored four goals. The team had a strong effort, and everyone played hard, according to head coach Sid Young.

If both HCHS and GW finish fourth, a coin toss would become necessary to determine fourth place. HCHS would host a first round game if the Comets win the coin toss, unless HCHS defeated Franklin County in the district regular season finale.

As for the GW win, the Comets played very well on Senior Night.

Sarah Rosche, the Comets’ leading scorer, got the first goal against the Eagles. HCHS then had a lot of scoring opportunities, and then GW tied it 1-1 at halftime, after a Comet defensive breakdown.

HCHS proved stronger in the second half. Jaynee Campbell scored early in the second half, to make it 2-1. Sarah Rosche scored again with about eight minutes gone in the second half to make it 3-1. GW cut it to 3-2 on a breakaway, but a minute later S. Rosche scored again to make it 4-2.

S. Rosche scored the final goal with about two minutes left.
