Lady Comets grab 2-0 win over MV

Halifax County High School varsity girls soccer improved to 3-4 Monday night, following a 2-0 win at home over Magna Vista.

Halifax got its first goal on the night from Keeley Nelson. She connected on a penalty kick with five minutes left in the Piedmont district match.

Mandy Lewis added the second goal, with two minutes remaining. Her shot bounced off a Magna Vista defender.

Comet goalie Amanda Coleman had five saves, and Comet coach Sid Young praised her effort.

Halifax had 21 shots on goal, to five for the Warriors. Magna Vista had 13 saves in goal.

Halifax had 10 corner kicks to two for the visitors. Halifax had four direct kicks to one for Magna Vista.

Halifax prevailed, despite a physical contest that saw a lot of bumping action, according to Young.

Halifax had two matches remaining this week, including Martinsville last night and GW tomorrow.

Both are road matches for Halifax.
