Comet tennis early season success continues

Lady Comets see scrimmage action Saturday / March 01, 2018
The Halifax County High School varsity softball team has preseason action at Appomattox Saturday.

The Comets play three teams, including Cumberland at noon; Appomattox at one p.m., and Liberty Christian at 3 p.m.

Comet manager Woody Bane said the staff is very happy with both the jayvee and varsity teams. He also noted the weather has been a factor in how much the Comets get on the field.

Bane said the varsity is taking a team-first approach to its pitching and defense.

“Pitching and defense – you’ve got to bring that every time,” said Bane.

Two of the leading hurlers are back, including Carol Fears and Lauryn Chappell. Bane said Fears has been dealing with injury issues. Abby Martin and Raegan Ridgeway will also assist on the mound.

Bane also said Halifax will try to throw strikes and play solid defense Saturday.
