Lady Comets take care of business / February 19, 2010
The second Western Valley District regular season game against PH-Roanoke on Wednesday night carried plenty of significance for the Lady Comets, and Halifax took care of business.

The Comets ended the campaign with a sparking 7-1 record, setting up a Friday night one-game playoff against William Fleming – also 7-1 in the WVD – for the district regular season crown and an automatic regional berth.

That game is to be played tonight in Franklin County

The Comets downed the Patriots, 58-48, with Destiny Betts scoring 19 points. Melyse Brown had 15 and Tiffany Wilson had eight.

The hard-working Comets scored 28 points before halftime, taking an 18-8 lead out of the gate in the first period. Halifax led 28-19 at the end of the first half and then outscored PH 8-2 in the third.

Halifax led 36-21 at the end of the third period.

Both teams erupted in the final period, with PH outscoring the Comets 27-22. M. Brown had a solid night and did a very good job at the foul line, sinking nine of ten.

HCHS went 14-for-20 from the foul line, 58 percent accuracy on the night. PH got 17 points from Shakeia Salters, 15 from Jewells Parfitt and ten from Sarah Williams, but did not have enough offensive consistency until the final period.

PH also went just 6-for-11 from the foul line.
