Lady Comets tune up with scrimmages

SoVaNow.com / March 04, 2013
The Halifax County High School varsity softball team tuned up for the season with a pair of preseason scrimmages against Atlee and Riverbend Saturday in the Richmond area.

The Comet coaches did not keep score, but Courtney Epps and Taylor Barnes handled the pitching duties for the Lady Comets.

Meg Bane had a solid outing, going 3-for-4, while Tayler Mosley was 2-3 and Miyana Ross 2-2, according to an email sent by Saunders Saturday night.

The Comets “played ok. (HCHS) made some mental mistakes offensively and defensively. We have to learn to be aggressive at the plate,” coach Melanie Saunders said.

Tthe Comets used, “this game as a practice. We did free substitutions, batted all players straight through. (We) saw a lot of things we need to work on, but it is early and the girls realize what they need to work on.”

“Not bad for our first outing,” she said.
