Lady Comets win Piedmont District track crown

The Halifax County High School girls track team defeated Patrick County, 138-134, to win the Piedmont District track title at Franklin County High School.

The Comets’ head coach, Mary Douglas, was named the female coach of the year and HCHS standout Tyrika Lee picked up the female athlete of the year.

Patrick County defeated the HCHS boys by nine points to collect the boys district crown. PC had 119 and HCHS 110.

Lee led a dazzling 1-2-3 finish in the 100 meter dash in 12.58. Teammate Kayla Forest was second in 12.87 and E’Lisha Lee placed third in12.94.

Lee led another 1-2-3 finish in the 200 meter dash finals, posting a 26.34. E’Lisha Lee placed second in 26.34 and Forest was third in 26.45.

Trinity Williams was fifth in the 300 meter hurdles in 54.01.

Noesha Ferrell was third in the 400 meters in 1:03.27.

Trinity Williams took third in the girls 100 meter finals in 17.84, with Tynia Caison sixth in 19.71.

The Comets captured the 4x100 meter relay finals in a blistering 49.64, ahead of second place PC, 55.45. The Comets also took second in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:22.12.

Halifax also had a third (Shadavia Reed, 74-04) and a fifth (Crystal Harris, 63-02) in the discus. Lee also took second in the high jump with a leap of 4-06.

Noesha Ferrell was fourth in the long jump (14-11) and fifth in that event (Namiya Roberts, 14-09.) T. Williams also grabbed sixth in that event with a leap of 14-07.75.

Halifax had a second (Shakiyra Jeffreys, 30-09) and a fourth (S. Reed, 28-01) in the shot put.

Lee also capped a versatile effort here with a third place effort in the triple jump in 30-06.50. Tierra Stevens was fifth with a jump of 29-02.50.

On the boys side, Treyquan Holt won the discus with a throw of 138-05. Robert Oliver was fifth with a throw of 108-01.

Holt also won the shot put with a throw of 43-07.

Roland Brandon won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.72 seconds. Brandon also captuted the 300 meter finals in 42.79, with teammate Xavier Aguilar sixth in 47.89. Brandon also captured the triple jump with an effort of 43-07.

Brandon placed sixth in the high jump finals with a jump of 5-08, with Jarvis Owens seventh.

Devan Richardson bolted to second in the long jump with an effort of 21-01.50. Brandon was seventh in that effort.

Devan Richardson took third in the district 100 meter dash in 11.05.

William Brooks took third in the 200 meter dash finals in 22.89.

Brooks placed third in the 400-meter dash in 51.79.

HCHS took fourth in the 4x100 meter relay finals, with a time of 45.31.

The Comets were fifth in the 4x400 meter relay finals in 3:46.97.
