The Halifax County Middle School girls basketball team easily defeated Ben Franklin Middle, 39-17, at home on Thursday night.

The Lions played solid defense, holding Franklin to one field goal in the third period and two in the fourth.

Halifax finished with two players in double figures. Savana Bailey had 13 points, while Talitha Marable scored 11. Lynia Reed scored seven and two players (Jaydn Harlow, Zylasia Morton) had three points. Tynia Carrington added two.

Halifax settled the issue early, outscoring Franklin 14-5 in the first period. By halftime, Halifax owned a 22-8 lead.

Bailey scored 11 points in the first half. Marable chipped in with eight before intermission.

Halifax improved to 3-0. The key to the season has been solid team defense, with suffocating 1-3-1 halfcourt trap pressure, according to coach James Smith.
