Legion shows defensive improvement in win

SoVaNow.com / June 25, 2018
American Legion Post 8 junior baseball squad showed improvement on defense Thursday in a 10-4 win at Martinsville Post 42.

The Legion team had just two errors, and one was a tough play.

Meanwhile, pitcher Anthony Conner had a complete game for the Legion, now 3-3.

Conner struck out four, walked four and surrendered three hits.

Conner had an effective changeup, according to coach Josh Perkins, and did a good job relying on his defense.

Peyton Chavis and Jackson Newton sparked the offense. Both had three RBI.

The Legion squad had 11 hits, and the full lineup did a solid job at the plate, Perkins said.

Legion returns home Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a non-district game with the Virginia Marlins.
