Lion boys finish track season on a high note / May 31, 2021
The Halifax County Middle School boys track team won its final meet against Fieldale-Collinsville and Patrick County at Laurel Park recently.

Jamal Bellamy scored over 30 points and had first place finishes in the shot put, 100M dash, 200M dash and 400M dash. Jamal led the 2020-21 Virginia Junior Piedmont conference season in the shot put with 41 feet 3 inches, the discus with 111 feet, the long jump with 16 feet 6 inches, the 100M dash with 12 seconds, and the 200M dash with 25.8 seconds.

Brennan Hunt placed first in the high jump and in the discus with a throw of 85’10”. Brennan led the current conference season in the high jump with a jump of 4’8”.

Will Payne scored points in the half mile and averaged under three minutes for each meet.

Tyler Staton scored points in the mile and averaged 7:40 for each meet.

The team of Jaivion Hamlett, Juelz Dunkley, Will Payne, and Tyler Staton scored points in the mile relay and averaged under 5:20 each meet.

Coaches Graham and Deal said they were proud of the student -athletes who gave it their all this year and wish them much success in their future endeavors.

“We would like to wish our eighth grader, Jamal Bellamy, the best of luck in his upcoming junior varsity events and in high school,” the coaches said.
