A second South Boston neighborhood was wracked by gunfire this weekend, with several houses and one vehicle struck by bullets, although no one was injured, police reported.

The Halifax County Middle School girls basketball team stumbled in Thursday’s Junior Piedmont District tournament title game against Laurel Park, losing 37-35.

Playing at home, the Lions could not finish. Laurel Park got strong balanced scoring from Al.yssa Woods, who sparked a strong final period and ended up with 17 points. Jamina Hairston had eight and Kaylee Hughes scored six.

Halifax finished 16-1.

Halifax had two offensive leaders, as has been the case most of the season. Kamyria Woody-Giggetts had consistent scoring all night and finished with 16 points.

Shamya Hankins also had good offensive consistency after the first period and finished with 10.

Jadyn Harlow scored three.
