The Halifax County Middle School boys’ basketball team doubled up Bonner Monday, 40-20.

The game became so lopsided that Lion coach W.J. Long did not play his starters the second half.

Halifax blitzed Bonner early, leading 17-5 at the end of the first period. Halifax held a 34-5 first half advantage, as Bonner went scoreless in the second period.

“We full court zone trapped them and got many turnovers and capitalized by getting easy buckets. After a huge lead, we came out of the trap and fell back into 1-3-1 zone defense. It was 33-5 at the half. James Smith led the way with 9 points.

“The reserves got in some solid minutes and it was good to see them get in the game and make contributions to the win,” said Long.

HCHS has a very tough game with Gibson tonight.
