Lions escape with win / January 29, 2018
Halifax County Middle School boys basketball escaped with a 45-43 win over Westwood in Danville Thursday night.

Zach Carter led the Lions with 15 points, while Nijay Ross and Mikyler Smalls had eight apiece. Javeon Morris and Jamarri Chandler collected five points each.

Halifax had a decided edge at the foul line, finishing nine-for-19. Westwood went three-for-three.

Smalls connected on four of six free throws and Carter hit three of seven.

Westwood led 13-6 early at the end of the first period and 25-19 at halftime. Westwood held a four-point margin (37-33) at the end of three periods.

Halifax owned the final period, rolling to a 12-6 surge that eventually sealed the win.

Small, Kameron Roberts (four points at the end); and Carter bagged baskets. Carter had two baskets and a pair of free throws in the final period.

Smalls also had four points in the final period.

Halifax limited Westwood to three field goals in the final period.
