Lions fall to Westwood 50-47

SoVaNow.com / January 17, 2013
The Halifax County Middle School boys’ basketball team lost to Westwood, 50-47, in a tough defeat Monday night.

HCMS coach W.J. Long noted the Lions “got behind early, trailed the entire game. Made a run in the fourth quarter to get within two points. Westwood hit foul shots down the stretch that kept them out front.

“We played hard. We only shot four free throws to their 20. The boys showed heart and never stopped playing. We didn’t box out well, especially in the first half and got hurt on the boards,” said Long.

HCMS got 14 points from James Smith Jr. and 16 from Stephan Chandler.
