Lions finish 6-0 to take district golf title

SoVaNow.com / September 30, 2021

The Halifax County Middle School golf team won two matches this week to complete the season at 6-0 and win the Junior Piedmont District title.

Both matches featured Ben Franklin Middle School; Patrick County played in Tuesday’s match. On Tuesday the team won with a score of 166. Monday the team won with a score of 239.

Coaches Charlie Payne and David Graham said they couldn’t be prouder of all the golfers this year.

“Tremendous season with one of the best teams that Coach Graham and I have ever coached,” Payne said. “Cannot say enough on the improvement and effort this team gave this year. Winning the Junior Piedmont District by winning each match was awesome.

“The team would like to give special thanks to our athletic director (Justin Saunders) and school for providing a safe environment for the team. Thanks to the staff and owner of Greens Folly Golf Course for allowing the team to play and practice. Also thanks to all the parents and fans for their support during the season. It was a lot of fun and I’m already looking forward to next season.”
