The Halifax County Middle School girls basketball team advanced past the first round of the Junior Piedmont District tournament.

Playing at home Tuesday, Halifax rolled past Patrick County, 38-15.

The Lions moved on in tournament play and hope to close out another undefeated campaign.

Halifax has been using pressure defense all season, and once again, the Lions bolted to a strong lead.

Halifax also scored consistently, putting up 14 points apiece in each of its first two periods.

The middle school girls led 32-11 at the end of three periods and added six points in the final stanza.

Shamya Hankins led the Lions with 12 points.
