Lions prevail in district golf action / September 12, 2019
Halifax County Middle School golf prevailed in district action Tuesday, holding off Ben Franklin Middle School.

Halifax had a team score of 179, while Ben Franklin Middle carded a 184.

Patrick County had a 201. Martinsville did not have a team score.

The four counted scores for the Lions were Alex Payne with 42, J.D. Cunningham with a 43, Peyton Murray with a 44 and Grady Upchurch with a 50.

“A must needed win by the Lions golf team at Greens Folly . This win keeps us alive in the race to win the district. Our players know that we can beat FC, we just have to go do it on the road. Alex Payne led the team with a very good round of 42. Following behind him was J. D. Cunningham at 43, and Peyton Murray at 44. Grady Upchurch rounded the four scores out with a 50. Coach Graham and I saw a few things we need to work on in practice and we should be ready for the next match,” said coach Charles Payne.

On Monday, Halifax travels to Franklin County for a district match.
