Lions sweep GW in track meet / April 14, 2010
Halifax County Middle School swept archrival GW-Danville in a track meet held Tuesday.

The Lion girls swamped GW, 79-25, while the boys cruised to an 85-20 win.

Halifax finished one-two in the shot, as Khameshia Outlaw won with an effort of 29.5, and Amber Harris placed second with a 27.4.25. The Lions went one-two in the long jump, as Ashley Hill had a leap of 13’2 and Lucy Morrison posted a 12-11. Halifax finished second and third in the discus, with Outlaw heaving the shot 52’9 and Harris just behind that mark at 51’6. Morrison was also second in the high jump at 3’10.

Halifax had an outstanding effort in the track events as well. Krystal Mosley won the hurdles in 9.65, with Tylisia Crews second in 10.02. HCMS won the 4x200 relay in 2:02. Joanna Gilbert led a Lion sweep with a 6.54 in the 1600, with Morrison (6.55) second and Shanita Johnson (7:12) third. T. Crews placed second in the 100 in 13.64 and Kayla Scott was third in 13.81.

HCMS went one-two in the 400, led by A. Hill in 1:11.56 and Tyra Woody in 1:12.7. HCMS won the 4x100 in 58.73 and J. Gilbert won the 800 in 3:12. K. Mosley was second in 3:15.

Brittany Carden finished second in the 200 in 29.69 and Tee-Onna Reed was third in 29.94.

Halifax also won the 4x400 in 5:05.

Jerry Lennon won the shot with a throw of 36-7, while Vincent Williams was second with an effort of 36-5. Lennon also won the discus in 114-10, while Treyquan Holt was second in 102.5. A Smith was third in 74-6.

Devan Richardson placed second in the high jump in 5-1. Richard Jacobs was first in the long jump in 18-1, while Donta Crews was second with an effort of 17-5.

HCMS finished one-three in the hurdles, with Michael Ferrell winning the event in 15.83. Kah’ni Younger was third in 16.34. HCMS also won the 4x200 relay in 1:52.17. William Miller led a sweep in the 1600, running 6:09.

Peter Gasperini was second in 6:10 and Kahleel Chandler was third in 6:16. R. Jacobs was second in the 100 in 11.62, while M. Ferrell was third in 11.83.

Halifax placed one-two in the 400, led by Kyran Adams in 1:00.3 and Ke-von Tucker second in 1:04.6. HCMS won the 4x100 in 50.05 and the Lions swept the 800. James Anderson led the way in that event with a time of 2:49, while Andrew Liegey was second in 3:20. W. Miller was third in 2:58.

Halifax went one-two in the 200, with Richardson leading the pack in 23.64. D. Crews was second in 25.06.

HCMS won the 4x400.
