Lions take down Martinsville 42-0 / September 18, 2019
Halifax County Middle School football defeated Martinsville, 42-0, Sept. 11 on the road.

Halifax used the air game early to get a jump on Martinsville.

The Lions capitalized on a 30-yard scoring pass from Atavion Mabins to Jesse Powell. Later, Mabins found Kanya Caddle on a 40-yard scoring pass to extend the lead to 14-0.

Halifax also got contributions from its defense.

“We played really good on the defensive side of the ball except for the first drive. They were driving the ball on us pretty good until we made some adjustments. Then it seemed we settled into the ball game,” said coach LeVar Medley.

The Lion defense also scored again on a scoop and score by Arious Sweeney for 20 yards.

Sweeney also had another score on the offensive side of the ball with a 60-yard reception from Mabins. Titus Tucker also scored on a 23 yard scamper into the end zone. HCMS got another score out of the run game also when Miller scored on another 60 yard jaunt from scrimmage.

“All together I was really proud of these guys and how hard they played. It was far from perfect, but we were able to get the effort that we wanted. We cleaned up a lot of things from last week, but we still have a long way to go. I am just proud of how we are responding,” said LeVar Medley.
