Match cut short by weather for Comet golfers / August 15, 2019
The Halifax County High School golf team did not finish its district regular season match at Tuscarora in Danville, due to rainy conditions Tuesday.

The match will be rescheduled, according to coach David Day.

Halifax finished tied for fifth among 23 teams in the Heritage Invitational. The Comets also won their first district regular season match last Thursday by 24 strokes.

Halifax carded a 317 in the first district round.

Halifax had an outstanding round by Will Gasperini with 67. Will Abdi had a 79. Ryan Corona had an 84 and Harrison Culpepper had an 87.

Despite the bright spots early, Day pointed out the Comets could have a tough time making the state tournament this fall in Class 4. Two schools in the Comets’ region, Blacksburg and Jefferson Forest, both finished ahead of Halifax in the Heritage Invitational.

The Comets need to make improvements to overtake either of those two schools.

Halifax has its only home match Monday at Greens Folly Golf Course. The Comets need to take advantage of the familiarity with the course in district regular season action.
