McCargo earns first team WVD honors / February 24, 2009
Whitney McCargo of the HCHS varsity girls’ basketball team earned first-team all-Western Valley district honors, leading a group of four Comets to receive postseason honors.
Miyisha Younger of HCHS earned second team all-district honors, while Tiffany Wilson and Nia Brown received honorable mention recognition.
Shea Smith of Franklin County was named player of the year. The first team all-district honoreees included Smith, Jasmine Hairston of GW; Miranda Smith and Brittany Nelms of FCHS; Sarah Williams of PH-Roanoke; Saleese Stovall of Fleming and MCargo.
The second team honorees were Tashiana Pack of Fleming, Mary Grace Lemon of Glass, Kate Norbo of PH; Tia Chattin of GW; Younger, Desirae Jamison of FCHS and Kymmisia Walker of GW.
The FCHS girls won the district tournament, defeating PH, 65-51.
