Old timers, newbies blend for Comet wrestling

SoVaNow.com / November 16, 2017
The Halifax County High School wrestling team kicks off its season on Dec. 2 at Carroll County High School.

“We have been pleased with the start of the year. Right now we have 17 wrestlers in the room, nine of which were with us last year. We also have several among the new group that have prior experience. That is going to help with the start of the year and getting the people that are beginners to the sport up to speed,” coach David Riddle said.

“We are not having to deal with the turnover that we have had to deal with in previous seasons with only one wrestler that went to conference and regionals graduating. Last season we were able to conclude our dual meet season with a winning record and had quite a few wrestlers place in individual tourneys and three move on to the second day of regionals. We have a great group of kids who have been ready for this season to start for awhile, so we are going to look to build on the success of the last year and have even stronger results this season. I’m happy with the direction this thing is going in right now.”
