Park View, Bluestone 1-2 in golf tri-match / August 09, 2017
The Bluestone varsity golf team opened the 2017 season last week at Kinderton Country Club and finished second in a tri-meet with area rivals.

Bluestone posted a team score of 370, 51 strokes better than Halifax but not enough to equal cross-county foe Park View, which won the match with a score of 358.

Bluestone had a tough time on the front nine, shooting 192, but recovered on the back nine, shooting 178. Coach David Allgood said he was pleased with the way the team responded during the match.

“Very proud of my team’s effort and ability to come back and cut 14 shots on the back nine,” Allgood said. “I think we started with some nerves but we overcame them as the round progressed.”

Allgood said his three senior starters, Morgan Tharpe, Brandon Ligon and Blake Gravitt did a good job. Three golfers who played for Bluestone on Thursday — Brady Platzke (92), Joseph Walker (109) and Wesley Crump (117) — had never competed in the high school ranks and Allgood said they fared well and he was happy with their efforts.

Park View was led by Hunter Sykes (86), Jackson Mosley (88), Sherwood Baskerville (91) and Kelsey Mosley (93).

Bluestone’s next match is Thursday at Kinderton when they host Central Lunenburg and Nottoway.
