Park View girls weather rough ride in tourney

SoVaNow.com / December 08, 2010
The Park View girls basketball team got off to a rough start on the season as they struggled in a two-day, round robin tournament this week at George Washington High School in Danville.

After losing on opening night Wednesday to host GW-Danville, the Dragon girls took on Halifax County on Thursday and were crushed, 75-24.

Halifax led 35-14 at the half and 55-15 at the end of three quarters. Park View had just 10 points in the second period and did not sink a field goal after the halftime break. The Lady Dragons tallied only five field goals for the game.

Jasmine “Bae Bae” Smith led the Park View with 15 points, including eight points at the foul stripe. Destiny Betts paced the HCHS Comets with 14 points and Melyse Brown scored 12 points. Both players sat out the final quarter of play.

The Park View girls, now 0-2 on the season, will swing back into action Friday when they host the Lady Chargers of Lunenburg. Tip-off is set at 8 p.m.
